You Incorporated: If you were a company would you fire yourself as the CEO?

If you were a company called You Inc. would you fire yourself as the CEO or would you give yourself a raise? A huge part of Africa is not in the best situation politically, economically and socially. The political instability that has become the trademark of Africa has left so many dreams and bodies in the dust. It is a tragedy yet, no one is responsible for our reactions but ourselves.

There is very little money to go around and life is tough. It all looks hopeless and it may actually be hopeless. Yet we still can choose to live our lives well and manage our affairs well. Instead of despairing and letting go of ourselves we can take responsibility for our actions and begin to act towards a better future. We can learn to be frugal and forgo all the luxuries that make us feel we are better than the next person. Stand out in a positive manner. Be top in your field, the industry of living life well.  Living within our means can be a way of actually maximizing our happiness. It puts needs before luxuries. What else are you mismanaging in your lives? What else may result in you firing yourselves if you each were a company called You Inc?

Born and raised in the small town in the land of milk and honey in south central Africa, I moved to the USA to study philosophy. The hope was to understand where humanity had lost its way. I took a historical perspective on the trajectory of western thought and was especially struck by Thucydides' History of the Peloponnesian War. The memorable description of human nature in that book contributed greatly to my understanding of the human condition.

Life is a misery to be endured until we die. Even those with terminal illnesses find times of respite and laugh and enjoy their lives. So too is mortality a terminal illness. We will all die, I for one am glad this is so. But before that day I will define myself, I will not go without giving everything I have got, and I will love with all my heart.

I am proud to be an Afropolitan; a world citizen of African descend. I am called Allen and I love writing, eating, and singing in the shower!
